NEGTC New England Grenadier Trail Club
New Hampshire · Vermont

3,646 miles your Grenadier was built for.

New Hampshire calls them Class VI roads. Vermont has Class 4 town highways and legal trails. They're public ways towns don't maintain for regular travel: old county roads, stage routes and farm tracks, many still passable by a capable rig and a friend with a winch. Every one is on the map below, straight from each state's road inventory.

About

Who we are

A loose group of Grenadier owners, and anyone else with a properly equipped rig, who want to drive New England's old roads together instead of alone. We plan runs, share what's passable and what isn't, and help each other out when something goes wrong.

Runs are organized in the Telegram group. Bring a recovery kit, a radio, and a sense of humor about mud.

Before you go

Ground rules

  • Public isn't the same as passable. The town doesn't maintain these for regular travel. Expect washouts, ledge, deadfall and water crossings.
  • Respect gates and postings. Some of these roads are gated or restricted locally, and Vermont towns can limit vehicles on legal trails. If it's closed, turn around and let the group know.
  • Stay off in mud season. Spring thaw is when these roads get destroyed. Wait until they dry out.
  • Never run hard trails alone. Two vehicles minimum, rated recovery points, and someone who knows where you went.
  • Leave it better. Stay on the existing track, pack out trash, and be polite to landowners and hikers.
